1. What We Collect

PlanTrip collects minimal data to provide our travel planning service:

• Account data: Email address, display name, and hashed password when you create an account.
• Trip planning data: Saved guides, trip plans, checklists, packing lists, scratch map selections, and budget preferences — synced to our server when logged in.
• Newsletter: Email address if you subscribe to our newsletter.

2. What We Don't Collect

• We do not use tracking cookies.
• We do not sell, share, or transfer your personal data to third parties.
• We do not use Google Analytics or any advertising trackers.
• We use Plausible Analytics, which is cookie-free and collects no personal data.

3. Local Storage

We use your browser's localStorage to save preferences, trip plans, and your login session. This data stays on your device unless you create an account, in which case it is synced to our server for cross-device access.

4. Data Security

Passwords are hashed using bcrypt. Authentication uses JWT tokens with 24-hour expiry. All data is stored in an encrypted database on our servers.

5. Your Rights (GDPR)

If you are in the European Economic Area, you have the right to:

• Access your personal data.
• Correct inaccurate data.
• Delete your account and all associated data.
• Export your data in a portable format.
• Withdraw consent for newsletter subscriptions at any time.

6. Data Retention

Account data is retained until you delete your account. Newsletter subscriptions can be cancelled at any time. Anonymous usage statistics (Plausible) are retained for 24 months.

7. Third-Party Services

• Plausible Analytics — privacy-focused, cookie-free web analytics. Their privacy policy.
• Wikimedia Commons — images used under Creative Commons licenses.
• OpenStreetMap / CARTO — map tiles. CARTO privacy.
• Nominatim — geocoding service. No personal data sent.
