Laas Geel Cave Paintings — Discovered only in 2002, the Laas Geel caves hold vivid, extraordinary polychrome paintings of cattle, humans, and wild animals painted 5,000–11,000 years ago — in near-perfect condition and almost entirely unvisited.

Berbera — A natural deep-water harbour on the Gulf of Aden — extraordinary Ottoman-era architecture, a British colonial bungalow quarter, one of the world's longest runways (built by the Soviets), and pristine beaches.

Hilib Ari — Spiced Goat — Goat meat slow-cooked or grilled with xawaash spice blend — cumin, coriander, turmeric, and cardamom — served with basmati rice and banana. The definitive Somali celebration dish.

Canjeero and Maraq — Spongy fermented flatbread (canjeero) served alongside maraq — a light meat broth with spices — the universal Somali breakfast, eaten by hand.

Baasto and Iskukaris — Spaghetti served with a rich, spiced tomato and meat sauce (baasto) — a legacy of the Italian colonial period, absorbed completely into Somali cooking. Iskukaris is a rice and meat dish with dried lime.

Grilled Gulf of Aden Fish — Fresh grouper, barracuda, and kingfish grilled over charcoal at Berbera's harbour-side restaurants — caught that morning and served with rice and spiced sauce.
