Republic Square — The grand central square surrounded by pink tuff government buildings, the History Museum, and the iconic singing fountains that dance to music and light every summer evening.

The Cascade — A massive limestone stairway connecting the city centre to the hilltop Victory Park. The interior houses the Cafesjian Center for the Arts with world-class contemporary sculpture.

Armenian Genocide Memorial (Tsitsernakaberd) — A powerful hilltop memorial to the 1915 Armenian Genocide. The eternal flame, the 12 slanting slabs, and the underground museum provide a deeply moving experience.

Matenadaran — One of the world's richest repositories of medieval manuscripts, housing over 17,000 ancient Armenian, Greek, Arabic, and Persian texts. The building itself is an architectural statement.

Local Food

Khorovats (Armenian BBQ) — Marinated pork, lamb, or chicken grilled over charcoal and served with lavash flatbread, grilled vegetables, and fresh herbs. The cornerstone of Armenian dining and social life.

Lahmajun — Thin, crispy flatbread topped with spiced minced meat, herbs, and tomatoes — the Armenian pizza. Squeeze lemon, roll it up, and eat on the go for under €1.

Dolma — Grape leaves or cabbage stuffed with a fragrant mix of rice, minced meat, herbs, and spices. Served with matsoni (yogurt). Every Armenian grandmother has her secret recipe.

Gata — A traditional sweet bread with a buttery, crumbly filling called khoriz. Comes in many regional variations from soft and round to flaky and layered.
