Shwedagon Pagoda — The most sacred Buddhist pagoda in Myanmar, its 99-metre gold-plated stupa dominates the Yangon skyline. Encrusted with 5,000 diamonds and 2,000 rubies, it glows magnificently at sunset and after dark.

Sule Pagoda — A 2,500-year-old pagoda standing in the middle of a downtown roundabout, anchoring Yangon's street grid. An important historical landmark surrounded by the energy of the commercial district.

Colonial Downtown — One of the largest collections of colonial-era buildings in Southeast Asia, featuring grand but crumbling Victorian, Edwardian, and Art Deco architecture. Many buildings are slowly being restored.

Bogyoke Aung San Market (Scott Market) — A sprawling colonial-era market with over 2,000 shops selling gems, jade, lacquerware, textiles, antiques, and Burmese handicrafts. The best one-stop souvenir shopping in Yangon.

Chaukhtatgyi Buddha Temple — A massive 66-metre reclining Buddha housed in a large metal-roofed building, with intricately decorated feet displaying the 108 sacred symbols of Buddhist cosmology.

Local Food

Mohinga — Myanmar's national dish — a rich, aromatic fish-based noodle soup with rice noodles, banana stem, lemongrass, ginger, and crispy fritters. Eaten for breakfast across the country from sidewalk stalls.

Laphet Thoke (Tea Leaf Salad) — Fermented tea leaves tossed with roasted peanuts, sesame seeds, fried garlic, dried shrimp, tomatoes, and lime juice. A uniquely Burmese flavour explosion — addictive and found nowhere else.

Shan Noodles — A lighter noodle dish from Shan State — thin rice noodles in a clear broth or dry-tossed with chicken, tomato, and peanuts. Flavoured with pickled mustard greens and chili oil.

Samosa Thoke (Samosa Salad) — Crushed Indian-style samosas tossed with onions, chickpea flour, chili, lime, and coriander — a uniquely Burmese fusion dish that turns a snack into a refreshing salad.
