Alexander Nevsky Cathedral — Sofia's most famous landmark — a magnificent Neo-Byzantine cathedral with gold domes that can hold 5,000 people. The crypt houses an extraordinary collection of Orthodox icons.

Vitosha Boulevard — Sofia's main pedestrian boulevard lined with shops, cafes, and restaurants. The view of Vitosha Mountain framed at the southern end is iconic. Lively day and night.

Church of St George Rotunda — A 4th-century Roman rotunda — Sofia's oldest building — surrounded by the ruins of the ancient city of Serdica. Medieval frescoes inside. Hidden in a courtyard between modern buildings.

National Palace of Culture (NDK) — Bulgaria's largest multifunctional complex surrounded by a beautiful park. Hosts concerts, exhibitions, and events. The surrounding park is perfect for an afternoon stroll.

Boyana Church — A small medieval church with 13th-century frescoes considered among the finest examples of Eastern European medieval art. A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979.

Local Food

Shopska Salad — Bulgaria's national salad — diced tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, and onions topped with a generous mound of grated sirene (white brine cheese). Fresh, simple, and perfect.

Kebapche — Spiced minced meat sausages grilled over charcoal, served with shopska salad, lyutenitsa (pepper relish), and fresh bread. Bulgaria's favourite street-food-meets-restaurant staple.

Banitsa — A flaky filo pastry filled with sirene cheese and eggs, baked golden. Eaten for breakfast with boza (fermented wheat drink) or ayran (yoghurt drink). Found at every bakery.

Tarator — A chilled cucumber and yoghurt soup with garlic, dill, and walnuts. The ultimate Bulgarian summer dish — refreshing and tangy. Bulgarian yoghurt is legendary.
