Top Places to Visit

Rhodes Old Town — A living medieval city enclosed within 4 km of walls. The Street of the Knights, Byzantine churches, Ottoman mosques, and hidden squares create a labyrinth spanning 2,400 years of history.

Palace of the Grand Master — A massive 14th-century Crusader fortress rebuilt by the Italians in the 1930s. Mosaic floors from Kos, medieval exhibitions, and towers offering views over the old town and harbour.

Acropolis of Lindos — A dramatic hilltop acropolis with a 4th-century BC Temple of Athena, a Hellenistic stoa, and a medieval castle. The panoramic view of St Paul's Bay below is breathtaking.

Street of the Knights — A perfectly preserved 600-metre Crusader street lined with the Inns of the Knights of St John, each representing a different European tongue. Walking it feels like stepping into the 15th century.

Mandraki Harbour — The ancient harbour flanked by bronze deer statues where the Colossus of Rhodes, one of the Seven Wonders, once stood. Fort of St Nicholas, windmills, and the Italian-era New Market.

Local Food

Moussaka — Layers of aubergine, minced lamb, potatoes, and creamy bechamel sauce baked until golden. Every taverna has its own recipe — the best are homemade and hearty.

Fresh Grilled Octopus — Chargrilled octopus drizzled with olive oil and lemon, served as a meze or main. Best at waterfront tavernas where it hangs drying in the sun outside.

Pitaroudia (Rhodes Chickpea Fritters) — A Rhodian speciality: crispy fried fritters of chickpeas, onions, mint, and cumin. Unique to the Dodecanese islands and perfect with ouzo.

Souvlaki & Gyros — Grilled meat skewers or shaved gyros wrapped in warm pita with tzatziki, tomato, onion, and chips. The best fast food on the island — filling and cheap.
