Hallgrimskirkja — A 74.5-metre expressionist concrete church inspired by basalt lava columns. Take the elevator to the top of the tower for a 360-degree panorama of Reykjavik, the bay, and distant mountains.

Harpa Concert Hall — A stunning concert hall with a geometric glass facade designed by Olafur Eliasson that changes colour with the light. Tour the interior or catch a concert by the Iceland Symphony Orchestra.

Sun Voyager Sculpture — Jon Gunnar Arnason's gleaming stainless steel sculpture on the waterfront, evoking a Viking longship. Best photographed at sunset with Mount Esja in the background.

Laugavegur Street — Reykjavik's vibrant main street lined with boutiques, design shops, cafes, and bars. The heart of the city's famous weekend runtur (pub crawl). Street art and murals on every side lane.

Pylsur (Icelandic Hot Dog) — A lamb, pork, and beef hot dog with raw and crispy onions, ketchup, sweet mustard, and remoulade. Order 'eina med ollu' (one with everything) at Baejarins Beztu by the harbour.

Plokkfiskur — A comforting Icelandic stew of mashed fish (usually cod or haddock) with potatoes, onions, and bechamel sauce. Simple, warming, and deeply traditional.

Lamb Soup (Kjotsupa) — Iceland's comfort food: tender lamb slow-cooked with root vegetables, herbs, and rice. Served in every traditional restaurant and tasting exactly like an Icelandic grandmother made it.

Kleinur — Twisted Icelandic doughnuts flavoured with cardamom — a tradition since the 1700s. Best from Sandholt bakery on Laugavegur with a strong Icelandic coffee.
