Recife Antigo — The birthplace of Recife on a small island, now a vibrant cultural district with colourful colonial buildings, the Marco Zero square, art galleries, street art, and the Carnival starting point.

Olinda — A UNESCO World Heritage town 6 km from Recife with pastel-coloured baroque churches, cobblestone streets, artist ateliers, and one of Brazil's most traditional Carnivals with giant puppet parades.

Praia de Boa Viagem — Recife's most famous beach: a 7 km stretch of golden sand with natural reef pools at low tide. Popular for morning walks, coconut water vendors, and sunset watching. Note: shark warnings apply in deeper water.

Instituto Ricardo Brennand — A remarkable museum complex in a Tudor-Gothic castle housing one of the world's largest collections of armour and bladed weapons, plus Dutch colonial paintings of Brazil. Set in lush gardens.

Local Food

Bolo de Rolo — Pernambuco's signature dessert: an impossibly thin roll cake with layers of guava paste, rolled so tightly that a cross-section reveals dozens of spirals. A true art form.

Caldeirada de Peixe — A rich fish stew with tomatoes, peppers, onions, coconut milk, and dend\u00ea oil. Served with pir\u00e3o (fish-broth manioc paste). Northeastern coastal cooking at its finest.

Tapioca — Flat crepes made from tapioca starch, filled with cheese, coconut, chocolate, or carne de sol. Found everywhere from street carts to upscale restaurants. The northeast's snack of choice.

Carne de Sol com Macaxeira — Sun-dried salted beef served with fried cassava (macaxeira) and butter. A hearty sertanejo (interior) classic that's found on every Recife restaurant menu.
