Hassan Tower — The iconic 44-meter tower was intended to be the world's largest minaret when construction began in 1195, but was never completed. The surrounding field of 200 stone columns marks the unfinished mosque.

Kasbah of the Udayas — A 12th-century Almohad kasbah perched above the mouth of the Bou Regreg river. Narrow blue-and-white streets, the Andalusian Gardens, and stunning ocean views make this Rabat's most photogenic quarter.

Chellah — A hauntingly atmospheric necropolis combining Roman Sala Colonia ruins with a 14th-century Marinid royal burial complex. Gardens alive with nesting storks, fig trees, and wildflowers.

Mausoleum of Mohammed V — The ornate white marble mausoleum beside Hassan Tower houses the tombs of King Mohammed V and his sons. The interior features zellige tilework, carved wood, and a Murano glass chandelier.

Royal Palace — The vast Dar al-Makhzen complex with its ornamental gates, manicured grounds, and ceremonial mechouar. The palace cannot be entered but the exterior and grand esplanade are impressive.

Tagine — Slow-cooked in a conical clay pot — Rabat's tagines feature chicken with preserved lemons and olives, lamb with prunes, or fish with chermoula. Available at every restaurant and food stall.

Maakouda & Sfenj — Deep-fried potato cakes (maakouda) and Moroccan doughnuts (sfenj) are popular street snacks, often served with harissa sauce. Find them at stalls throughout the medina.

Grilled Sardines — Fresh Atlantic sardines grilled over charcoal and served with chermoula, lemon, and bread. Rabat's coastal location means exceptional seafood at modest prices.

Chebakia — Flower-shaped sesame cookies deep-fried and soaked in honey, coated with sesame seeds. Traditionally eaten during Ramadan but available year-round at patisseries.
