Top Places to Visit

Prague Castle — A 70,000 sq m castle complex spanning a millennium of architecture. Includes St Vitus Cathedral, the Old Royal Palace, Golden Lane, and the castle gardens. Allow half a day.

Charles Bridge — A 14th-century stone bridge lined with 30 baroque statues, connecting Old Town to Mala Strana. Visit at dawn to avoid crowds and see the mist rising from the Vltava.

Old Town Square — Prague's historic heart since the 10th century. Watch the Astronomical Clock's hourly procession of apostles, admire the Gothic Tyn Church, and soak in the bustling atmosphere.

St Vitus Cathedral — A soaring Gothic cathedral that took 600 years to complete. Mucha's Art Nouveau stained glass window, the Crown Jewels vault, and views from the Great South Tower.

Jewish Quarter (Josefov) — One of Europe's best-preserved Jewish heritage sites. Six synagogues, the haunting Old Jewish Cemetery with 12,000 tombstones layered 12 deep, and the moving exhibition on the Holocaust.

Local Food

Svickova na Smetane — Braised beef sirloin in a creamy root vegetable sauce with bread dumplings and cranberry compote. The quintessential Czech comfort dish — order it everywhere.

Veprove Koleno (Pork Knuckle) — A massive, slow-roasted pork knuckle with crispy crackling, served with mustard, horseradish, and pickles. One knuckle can feed two people. Best with dark Czech beer.

Trdelnik — A rolled pastry grilled over charcoal, coated in sugar and cinnamon. Often filled with ice cream or Nutella. Not historically Czech, but delicious and everywhere in Prague.

Czech Pilsner — The Czech Republic invented pilsner in 1842. Pilsner Urquell, Staropramen, and Kozel are the classics. Prague's pubs serve the freshest, cheapest beer in Europe — around 50 CZK (€2).
