Top Places to Visit

Patong Beach — A 3.5 km crescent of golden sand backed by a wall of hotels, restaurants, and Bangla Road nightlife. Jet skis, parasailing, and beach bars by day; neon-lit party streets by night.

Big Buddha — A 45-metre-tall white marble Maravija Buddha sits atop Nakkerd Hills, visible from much of the island. The viewpoint offers 360-degree panoramas across Chalong Bay, Kata, and Karon beaches.

Phuket Old Town — Colourful Sino-Portuguese shophouses line Thalang Road and Soi Romanee. Street art, hipster cafes, local museums, and the Sunday Walking Street market make this Phuket's most charming neighbourhood.

Phi Phi Islands — A day trip to the stunning Phi Phi Islands — Maya Bay (made famous by 'The Beach'), crystal-clear snorkelling, and the vibrant Phi Phi Don village. Book speedboat or longtail boat tours from Phuket.

Kata Beach — A beautiful 1.5 km beach with gentle waves, excellent surf in monsoon season, and a more relaxed atmosphere than Patong. Good restaurants and mid-range hotels line the road behind.

Local Food

Moo Hong (Phuket Braised Pork) — Phuket's signature dish — pork belly slow-braised in soy sauce, garlic, and five-spice until meltingly tender. Reflects the island's Chinese heritage. Found in Phuket Old Town restaurants.

Pad Thai — Stir-fried rice noodles with shrimp, tofu, egg, bean sprouts, and crushed peanuts in a tamarind sauce. Best from street vendors who cook over charcoal woks for that smoky flavour.

Tom Yum Goong — A fiery and sour shrimp soup with lemongrass, galangal, kaffir lime leaves, and chilli. Phuket's coastal version is loaded with fresh prawns. The quintessential Thai flavour bomb.

O-Aew (Phuket Shaved Ice) — A refreshing Hokkien-origin dessert unique to Phuket — shaved ice with red beans, grass jelly, basil seeds, and sweet syrup. Perfect for cooling down after a beach day.
