Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque — One of the most beautiful mosques in the world, featuring the second-largest hand-loomed carpet (4,343 sq m), a stunning Swarovski crystal chandelier, and immaculate marble architecture. Non-Muslims welcome mornings.

Mutrah Souq — A labyrinthine Arabian souq selling frankincense, silver khanjars (daggers), textiles, antiques, and spices. The scent of bukhoor (incense) fills the covered alleyways. Open since antiquity.

Royal Opera House Muscat — A stunning piece of contemporary Islamic architecture hosting international opera, ballet, and orchestral performances. The marble interiors, manicured gardens, and cultural centre are open to visitors.

Wadi Shab — A spectacular wadi with turquoise pools connected by swims through narrow canyon passages, leading to a hidden cave waterfall. One of Oman's most magical natural wonders.

Mutrah Corniche — A beautiful corniche curving along the harbour beneath jagged mountains, lined with whitewashed buildings, Portuguese-era watchtowers, and fish market activity. Spectacular at dusk.

Local Food

Shuwa — Oman's celebratory centrepiece — lamb or goat marinated in spices, wrapped in banana leaves, and slow-roasted in an underground sand oven for up to 48 hours. Meltingly tender.

Grilled Kingfish (Kanaad) — Fresh kingfish simply grilled with lime and spices — the staple of Omani coastal cuisine. Best enjoyed at a beachside restaurant or from the Mutrah fish market area.

Omani Bread (Khabees) — Traditional Omani flatbreads baked in clay ovens, served with honey or date syrup. Khabees is a sweet semolina and date dish often accompanying Arabic coffee.

Halwa — Omani halwa — a dense, gelatinous sweet made with dates, rosewater, saffron, nuts, and ghee. Served with Arabic coffee as a welcoming gesture. Available in the souqs.
