Kigali Genocide Memorial — The final resting place of over 250,000 victims of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi. A deeply moving museum with personal testimonies, photographs, and a children's memorial. Essential and free to visit.

Kimironko Market — The city's largest market selling colorful kitenge fabrics, fresh produce, crafts, and secondhand clothing. A lively, friendly place to shop for souvenirs and experience daily Rwandan life.

Local Food

Brochettes — Rwanda's beloved grilled meat skewers — goat, beef, or chicken — cooked over charcoal and served with fried plantains (igitoke) and spicy chili sauce. Found at every neighborhood grill spot.

Isombe & Ubugari — Cassava leaves pounded and cooked with palm oil, eggplant, and spinach (isombe), served with ubugari (stiff porridge made from cassava flour). Rwanda's comfort food staple.
