Kasubi Tombs — The burial ground of Buganda kings, rebuilt after a 2010 fire and recently restored. A UNESCO World Heritage Site showcasing the spiritual and political heart of the Buganda Kingdom.

Uganda Museum — Uganda's oldest museum with exhibits on ethnography, natural history, archaeology, and traditional musical instruments. A good introduction to the country's diverse cultures.

Owino Market (St. Balikuddembe) — A vast, labyrinthine market famous for secondhand clothes (mitumba), electronics, and practically everything else. Millions of items, thousands of vendors, and an unforgettable sensory experience.

Gaddafi National Mosque — Uganda's largest mosque, a gift from Libya's Muammar Gaddafi. The minaret offers the best panoramic view of Kampala — all seven hills visible on a clear day. Non-Muslims welcome outside prayer times.

Namirembe Cathedral — A red-brick Anglican cathedral on one of Kampala's seven hills, dating to 1919. Peaceful grounds with sweeping views over the city and a fascinating colonial history.

Local Food

Rolex — Uganda's most famous street food — a chapati rolled around a fried egg omelette with tomatoes, onions, and cabbage. The name is a playful contraction of 'rolled eggs.' Ubiquitous and addictive.

Matoke — Steamed green banana (plantain) mashed into a starchy, savory staple. Served with groundnut sauce, beef stew, or beans. The quintessential Ugandan comfort food.

Muchomo — Skewered and grilled meat — goat, chicken, or beef — cooked over charcoal at roadside stands. Often served with roasted plantain (gonja) and a spicy chili sauce.

Luwombo — A Buganda royal dish — chicken, beef, or groundnuts steamed in banana leaves. The slow steaming creates incredibly tender, aromatic flavors. Traditionally reserved for special occasions.
