Top Places to Visit

Cu Chi Tunnels — A vast network of over 250 km of underground tunnels used by Viet Cong guerrillas during the Vietnam War. Crawl through sections, see booby traps, and fire AK-47s at the shooting range.

War Remnants Museum — A powerful and confronting museum documenting the Vietnam War's impact with photographs, military equipment, and personal stories. The Agent Orange and napalm exhibits are deeply moving.

Ben Thanh Market — Saigon's most famous market since 1912. Over 1,500 stalls selling everything from silk and lacquerware to spices and street food. The surrounding night market opens after 6 PM with even more food stalls.

Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica — Built between 1863 and 1880 using materials imported from France, this neo-Romanesque cathedral with its twin bell towers is an iconic symbol of Saigon's French heritage. Currently under renovation.

Central Post Office — A stunning French colonial building designed in the 1880s with vaulted ceilings, ornate maps, and a large portrait of Ho Chi Minh. Still a working post office — send a postcard home.

Local Food

Banh Mi — Saigon is the birthplace of the banh mi. Crispy baguette filled with pate, grilled pork, pickled carrots, fresh herbs, and chilli. Banh Mi Huynh Hoa on Le Thi Rieng is legendary.

Com Tam (Broken Rice) — The quintessential Saigon dish — broken rice topped with a grilled pork chop, shredded pork skin, a steamed egg cake, and nuoc cham dipping sauce. A hearty, affordable meal any time of day.

Hu Tieu — Saigon's answer to pho — a clear, sweet pork broth with rice noodles, shrimp, pork, and a quail egg. Served wet (in soup) or dry (with broth on the side). A southern breakfast staple.

Banh Xeo — Crispy Vietnamese crepes stuffed with shrimp, pork, and bean sprouts. Tear off pieces, wrap in lettuce and herbs, and dip in nuoc cham. The sizzle of batter hitting the pan is unforgettable.
