Red Fort — Built in 1638 by Shah Jahan, this massive red sandstone fortress was the ceremonial and political centre of the Mughal Empire for nearly 200 years. The evening sound and light show brings history alive.

Qutub Minar — At 72.5 metres, this UNESCO-listed 12th-century victory tower is the world's tallest brick minaret. The surrounding Qutub Complex features the mysterious rust-free Iron Pillar and ruined mosques.

Humayun's Tomb — Built in 1570, this stunning garden tomb was the inspiration for the Taj Mahal. Red sandstone and white marble set in symmetrical Mughal gardens. UNESCO World Heritage Site and a must-visit.

Chandni Chowk — A 17th-century market street that is sensory overload — spice stalls, silver jewellery, fabric shops, and the greatest concentration of street food in India. Start at the Red Fort gate and dive in.

India Gate — A 42-metre stone arch commemorating 70,000 Indian soldiers who died in World War I. The surrounding Rajpath lawns are a favourite gathering spot, especially at sunset when the gate is illuminated.

Chole Bhature — Delhi's favourite breakfast — spicy chickpea curry with deep-fried puffy bread. Rich, indulgent, and served at stalls across the city. Sita Ram Diwan Chand in Paharganj is legendary.

Paranthas (Paranthe Wali Gali) — A narrow lane in Chandni Chowk dedicated to stuffed flatbreads — potato, cauliflower, banana, even rabri-filled. Deep-fried in ghee and served with pickles and yoghurt since the 1870s.

Butter Chicken & Naan — Invented in Delhi in the 1950s, creamy tomato-based chicken curry with pillowy tandoori naan is an Indian culinary icon. Try it at Moti Mahal in Daryaganj, the claimed birthplace.

Seekh Kebab at Jama Masjid — The lanes around Jama Masjid serve Delhi's best kebabs — minced lamb spiced and grilled on skewers over charcoal. Al Jawahar and Karim's have been serving since the 1910s.
