Playa Delfines — The most beautiful stretch of Cancun's coastline with powdery white sand and turquoise waters. The iconic CANCUN sign makes for a classic photo. Free entry, no resort crowds, and excellent bodyboarding waves.

Chichén Itzá — The most famous Maya archaeological site in Mexico, crowned by the perfectly proportioned El Castillo pyramid. During equinoxes, a serpent shadow slithers down the staircase. Arrive at opening time to beat the crowds.

Isla Mujeres — A charming island just 20 minutes by ferry from Cancun with a relaxed vibe, golf cart transport, the stunning Playa Norte beach, and excellent snorkelling at the underwater sculpture museum MUSA.

Cenote Ik Kil — A dramatic open-air cenote with vines hanging 26 metres down to the crystal-clear turquoise water below. Often combined with a visit to Chichén Itzá. The swimming experience in this natural sinkhole is unforgettable.

Tulum Ruins — A dramatically situated Maya walled city perched on cliffs above the Caribbean Sea. The Castillo temple overlooks a perfect crescent beach below. One of the most photographed archaeological sites in the Americas.

Local Food

Ceviche — Fresh fish or shrimp cured in lime juice with tomato, onion, cilantro, and habanero chilli. Cancun's version is lighter and spicier than other Mexican styles, reflecting the Yucatecan love of citrus and heat.

Cochinita Pibil — Slow-roasted pork marinated in achiote paste and sour orange, wrapped in banana leaves and cooked underground. Served with pickled red onion on handmade tortillas. The Yucatán's signature dish.

Tikin Xic — Whole fish marinated in achiote and sour orange, wrapped in banana leaves and grilled over charcoal. A Maya-origin dish best enjoyed at beachfront restaurants on Isla Mujeres.

Marquesitas — Crispy rolled crepes filled with Edam cheese (queso de bola) and your choice of sweet topping — Nutella, caramel, or jam. A beloved Yucatecan street snack found at carts throughout downtown.
