Top Places to Visit

Sea Garden (Morska Gradina) — A beautiful, expansive park stretching along the coast with gardens, sculptures, an open-air theatre, cafes, and paths leading to the city beaches.

Burgas Beach — A wide, long sandy beach right in the city centre, backed by the Sea Garden. Free to access with affordable umbrella and sunbed rentals.

Ancient Nesebar — A stunning UNESCO-listed old town on a rocky peninsula 35 km north. Medieval churches, cobblestone streets, and traditional wooden houses above the sea.

Poda Protected Area — A coastal nature reserve south of the city, part of the Via Pontica bird migration route. Home to pelicans, herons, cormorants, and hundreds of migratory species.

Sozopol Old Town — A charming Black Sea fishing town 35 km south with an atmospheric old town of wooden houses, ancient fortress walls, and excellent fish restaurants.

Local Food

Shopska Salata — Bulgaria's national salad — diced tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, and onions topped with a generous pile of grated sirene (white brine cheese). Refreshing and ubiquitous.

Kebapche — Spiced minced meat sausages grilled over charcoal, served with shopska salad, fries, and lyutenitsa (pepper-tomato relish). Bulgaria's favourite grilled meat.

Tsatsa (Sprat) — Tiny Black Sea sprats lightly floured and fried until crispy. Served as a meze with beer — the quintessential Burgas seafood snack.

Bob Chorba — A thick, hearty white bean soup with paprika, tomatoes, and mint. A Bulgarian staple especially popular in cooler months.
