Museo del Oro (Gold Museum) — Over 55,000 pieces of pre-Colombian gold and metalwork, including the legendary Muisca raft. The darkened 'offering room' on the top floor is a breathtaking finale. Always free.

La Candelaria — Bogotá's historic centre with cobblestone streets, colourful colonial houses, street art murals, universities, and the city's most important museums and churches.

Monserrate — A 3,152-metre peak overlooking Bogotá, reached by cable car, funicular, or a steep hiking trail. The white church at the top and 360-degree views of the sprawling city are magnificent.

Museo Botero — A free museum housing 208 works donated by Colombia's most famous artist, including his signature rotund figures plus pieces by Picasso, Dalí, Monet, and Renoir.

Plaza Bolívar — Bogotá's main square surrounded by the Cathedral, the Capitol, the Palace of Justice, and the Mayor's office. Pigeons, street performers, and political rallies define this lively space.

Local Food

Ajiaco — Bogotá's signature soup: a hearty chicken broth with three types of potato, corn on the cob, guasca herb, capers, cream, and avocado. Warming comfort food for the cool Andean climate.

Arepa con Queso — Grilled corn cakes stuffed or topped with melting Colombian cheese. Found on every street corner, from simple sidewalk grills to gourmet versions. The arepa de choclo (sweet corn) is exceptional.

Bandeja Paisa — Colombia's most famous platter: red beans, rice, ground beef, chicharrón (pork belly), fried egg, plantain, avocado, and arepa. Originally from Medellín but beloved in Bogotá too.

Tinto & Colombian Coffee — A 'tinto' is a small, sweet black coffee sold on every corner for COP 1,000. For specialty coffee, Bogotá's third-wave cafes showcase some of the world's finest single-origin Colombian beans.
