Castillo de Santa Bárbara — One of Spain's largest medieval fortresses, perched 166 metres above the city. Take the lift from Postiguet Beach through the mountain or walk the winding path for stunning Mediterranean views.

Explanada de España — Alicante's most famous boulevard, paved with 6.5 million marble tiles in a wave pattern. Lined with palm trees, outdoor cafes, and craft stalls, it stretches along the marina.

Barrio de Santa Cruz — A maze of narrow streets with whitewashed houses, colourful flower pots, and hidden plazas climbing up towards the castle. The most photogenic corner of Alicante.

MARQ — Archaeological Museum — A European Museum of the Year award winner, MARQ takes you from prehistoric caves through Roman and medieval periods with innovative interactive displays.

Playa del Postiguet — A golden sand beach right in the city centre, sheltered by the castle headland. Blue Flag certified with calm waters, perfect for a swim after sightseeing.

Local Food

Arroz a Banda — A traditional fisherman's rice cooked in rich fish stock, served with alioli. Alicante's answer to paella and arguably the region's finest rice dish.

Esgarraet — Shredded salt cod mixed with roasted red peppers, garlic, and olive oil — a classic Alicantine tapa bursting with Mediterranean flavour.

Turrón de Jijona — Alicante province is the turrón capital of Spain. This soft almond nougat from nearby Jijona is an essential sweet treat, especially at Christmas.

Gambas Rojas de Dénia — Prized red prawns from the nearby coast, grilled simply with sea salt. Sweet, succulent, and best enjoyed with a cold local white wine.
