Plateau District — Abidjan's business center with gleaming skyscrapers, the cathedral, government buildings, and the striking Pyramid building. A dramatic skyline rising from the Ébrié Lagoon, best viewed from Treichville across the water.

Banco National Park — A remarkable 3,474-hectare tropical rainforest in the heart of the city — home to chimpanzees, monkeys, and hundreds of bird species. Walking trails, a traditional laundry village, and surreal urban-jungle contrast.

St. Paul's Cathedral — A striking concrete cathedral designed by Italian architect Aldo Spirito, consecrated by Pope John Paul II in 1985. Its enormous inclined cross and stained glass create a dramatic interior.

Treichville Market — One of West Africa's great markets, sprawling across blocks with everything from wax-print fabrics and tailors to traditional medicines, electronics, and mountains of fresh produce.

Local Food

Attieké & Grilled Fish — Fermented cassava couscous (attieké) served alongside char-grilled fish — tilapia, capitaine, or barracuda — with chili sauce, fried plantains, and fresh tomatoes. The quintessential Ivorian meal.

Sauce Graine (Palm Nut Soup) — A rich, orange-red soup made from palm fruit extract, served with fufu (pounded yam or plantain). Deeply flavored with smoked fish, crab, and snails. A beloved comfort dish.

Alloco — Fried ripe plantain slices served with spicy onion-tomato sauce and sometimes a boiled egg. Sold by women at street stands (called allocodromes) throughout the city — the ultimate Abidjan snack.

Garba — A student favorite — attieké served with fried tuna and spicy pepper sauce. Named after a famous vendor, it is the cheapest and most popular lunch in Abidjan, found near every university and market.
